When you think of planting flowers, you may think it’s pretty straight forward. Dig a hole, set the flowers in the hole, pull the dirt back in the hole around the flowers, then water. Well, that’s actually pretty close, but for a full, bright, beautiful flower garden that will last all summer long, there’s a little more to it. Probably the most difficult step is selecting the flowers. When, selecting flowers keep in mind the location. Will they receive full sun; perhaps your flowers will be covered by shade? Will the flowers be going into a pot, or into the ground? Either way, poor soil will lead to slow growth so, think of purchasing a couple bags of potting soil. Its relativity cheap and has all the nutrients that flowers need for healthy growth. Now it’s time to plant. Dig a whole four times the size of the root- ball, take a handful of potting soil and place it in the bottom of the hole, then gently pull the flower out of the plastic container, place the flowers in the hole, (making sure it is level with the ground.) With your potting soil, fill the rest of the hole, making sure to push the soil down firmly around the flowers. Step three this is by far the simplest step- watering. Remember don’t over water. When the water starts to pool on the soil, stop. Around seven to ten days after planting this would be the best time for a little plant food (Miracle Gro is my favorite.) Then, reapply plant food every seven to ten days. The last and final step in maintaining your flower garden is to make sure that you pull any dead or wilted pedals off the flowers throughout the season, this will ensure new growth. Fallowing these simple steps will have all your neighbors jealous and you’ll have a beautiful flower garden for you and your family to enjoy all summer.
